More than twelve years of meticulous archival research have shed new light on the main characters of this story; the documentation of several hundred instruments from the most important international collections has been made possible by our networking and international co-operation; the most modern research methods like dendrochronology, micro-CT imaging and varnish diagnostics have been used to reveal the construction techniques down to the smallest detail.

The first volume ( 2024) presents the violin makers who were active from around 1680 to 1750 - from Pietro Guarneri to Camillo Camilli.
